Importance of Clash detection Services in Buildings
Clash Detection is the method of inspecting and identifying the various interferences which frequently occurs in the coordinating process of 3D models created in different modern softwares like Revit Architectural, Revit Structural & Revit MEP.
In BIM, 3D models for different types such as Structural, Civil, and Architectural &MEP(Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing). When a combination of all these different types of models to create a complete BIM model there will be chances of the clash between these elements. In clash detection test it detects the conflicts between different elements within the 3D Building Information Model before actual construction starts, and therefore time optimization in the construction schedule, reduce costs and change orders.
By using clash detection application it increases the productivity of design and construction project. There are 3 main types of clashes, they are a hard clash, soft clash, and 4D clash
Hard clash: It occurs when two objects occupy the same space.
Soft clash: It occurs when the required spatial or geometric tolerance or buffer zone of an object is violated. For example, equipment may require certain clearances to allow for maintenance, access or safety but it is placed too close to a wall.
4D clash: It is also called a workflow clash. Unlike hard and soft clashes which refer to clashes of objects after construction, 4D clashes take into account the scheduling of activities and refer to hard or soft spatial clashes of objects during construction. For example, large equipment needs to be installed in a room before the walls of the room are built because the equipment is too large to go through any opening on the walls. Therefore, if the walls are mistakenly built before the equipment is installed, we have a 4D clash in this case. Several BIM software tools provide built-in clash detection functions. In this paper, we will introduce how to use the clash detection functions provided by Revit and Navisworks.
Need for Clash Detection :
In traditional method organizations are the prepares activities for the execution stage as establishing contracts with contractors, buying materials, ensuring a good coordination and assembly order of the different systems of a project. The most clashes are recognized when the contractor receives the design drawings and everyone is on-site and working. it is compared 2D designs to each other to find conflict clashes between the speciality designs.
Because the speciality contributors i.e. structural engineers, MEP engineers etc. develop their designs separately, so when comparing these designs on different drawings is a process easily overlook clashes. The contractors require to see that the detailing of structural elements, plumbing, electrical lines, attachment and other component is done well. If there is some mistake in of these clashes result in change orders then these effects on cause delay in the project, design modifications, materials costs and budget overruns. Using BIM and the Clash Detection application enables potential problems to be identified early in the design phase and resolved before construction begins with more effective.
Features of Clash Detection:
1) By using clash detection for the construction project can reduce the extra cost for mistaken construction.
2) By using this the project manager can correct the schedule of the project without any further clashes
3) It helps in effective identification, inspection and reporting of interferences in a project model.
4) Clash detection is used for checking completed/ongoing work and reduces the risk of human error during model inspections.
We apply automated electronic clash detection, conflict resolution and architectural, mechanical and electrical trade coordination in the design process allowing general contractors and construction firms to issue RFIs and change orders prior to physical construction, and made such clashes.
